Diablo 4: Vessel Of Hatred - Kurast Undercity Activity Guide
The Kurast Undercity returns in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. What was once a part of Diablo 2's third act has been reworked into Diablo 4 Gold a fast-paced dungeon that's fairly similar to Diablo 3's Greater Rifts. Descend into the heart of the Undercity, slay hundreds of monsters for time, then kill a difficult final boss for rewards.

It sounds similar to a Nightmare Dungeon on paper, but where the Kurast Undercity differs is in its rewards. Through Tributes and Blessings, it's possible to target farm aspects and certain affixes. If you're looking for the strongest items in Diablo 4's endgame, the Kurast Undercity isn't a bad place to farm.

How To Unlock The Kurast Undercity
Kurast Undercity unlocks during "Deeds of a Champion," a post-campaign quest chain that will guide you through most of Diablo 4's endgame activities. One of the steps partway through the quest will require you to slay the Terror of Five Hills, a boss inside the dungeon tileset. Head to the spirit brazier in town to start the mission.

Once you complete this quest, you'll gain access to Kurast Undercity on your character. You can start a run whenever you please, but this activity's main rewards are tied behind consumable items called Tributes and optional Bargain modifiers. We cover these later in the guide.

Kurast Undercity Guide
Kurast Undercity is structured similarly to Diablo 3's Greater Rifts. This dungeon is separated into three distinct levels, two of which are timed. Before you move your character, pull up your map and check the layout. You'll notice a series of icons dotting the area. These indicate optional events or monsters that award bonus time when completed or slain, respectively.

Attunement

Each activity you clear inside the dungeon will award Attunement. Each tier awards bonus loot from the boss chest.

You don't need to complete every event to hit Attunement IV, but you'll need to clear most of the dungeon.

Your main source of time is going to be braziers scattered across the tile. Activate them, kill the pack of adds that emerge, then rush to the next objective. Braziers also grant a massive boost to your cooldown reduction. Don't be afraid to spam your ultimate skills while in the Kurast Undercity. Reaching the other side and interacting with the exit portal will stop the timer.

After clearing two floors, you'll reach a boss arena. Boss fights are not timed and work similarly to Nightmare Dungeons. Stay away from the boss' telegraphed AoE attacks, use potions when your HP gets low, and try to stagger the boss to give yourself a short DPS window. Once the boss is slain, you'll get to open a chest filled with rewards, most of which can be influenced by Tributes and Bargains.

Kurast Undercity Rewards

On its own, the Kurast Undercity isn't particularly rewarding. The boss chest only drops a few Legendary items with a high chance of a Rune. Where most of your rewards come from are Tributes, a consumable you offer to the spirit brazier just before the start of a run. You can then further modify your rewards with a Blessing, modifying all items that drop from the reward chest.

Tributes
Tributes are one-time consumables you can sacrifice at the spirit brazier to add new chest rewards. This can include Runes, Ancestral gear, and even a major drop rate boost to Mythic Uniques. Tributes are broken up into different rarities, each with subtypes. More common Tributes will usually drop Runes, for example.

You can find Tributes in most Diablo 4 content, including Nightmare Dungeons, Pit runs, and Helltide chests. A handful of them can be earned through the Season Journey and the "Deeds of a Champion" quest chain.

Blessings

Blessings modify the types of Legendary and Unique items you'll find from the reward chest. These can be accessed in the spirit brazier after you've placed a Tribute. Blessings cost a small sum of crafting materials and influence all end-chest drops. For example, a Blessing that forces +Skill Ranks to cheap Diablo 4 Gold drop will apply to all Legendary gear that drops from the reward chest.
